Smile Confidently with EMPRESS Veneers

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Porcelain Veneers ChicagoWhen you come face to face with someone, whether they are known to you or are a total stranger, your smile can speak volumes about you. What story do you want to tell with your smile? If the answer calls for you to want to make changes, EMPRESS veneers might be a great first chapter.

There are many reasons you might feel the need for a smile makeover. Dental stain or discolored teeth, chipped or broken teeth in your smile line, unsightly gaps between your teeth, or uneven teeth that are worn down are all reasons to make changes.

A consultation with your cosmetic dentist can get you on the right path, especially if the option of EMPRESS veneers is your choice.

Porcelain veneers are very thin covers that are placed on the front of your teeth to conceal your dental imperfections. Thanks to the wonderful porcelain available through EMPRESS Veneers, patients are able to realize a total smile makeover with results that produce durable, strong, and long lasting restorations.

The main difference between standard porcelain veneers and EMPRESS veneers is the material used to manufacture the veneers. EMPRESS veneers are manufactured from a leucite-glass ceramic porcelain that allows your dentist to provide a perfect match to the shape and shade you desire.

In addition to this aesthetic value, the resulting restoration gives you a much more comfortable and reliable opposing bite. What this means to you is your new smile makeover will be healthy, long lasting, and durable, as well as stain resistant.

EMPRESS veneers are as beautiful as glass, but are considered a porcelain restoration. Since they are metal free, patients that are allergic to metal can be assured of a beautiful restoration without any concern for a metallurgic reaction.

Another advantage to a smile makeover with EMPRESS veneers is that they will be placed removing as little of the natural teeth as possible. Only enough of the enamel is removed to allow the very thin EMPRESS Veneers to be placed giving you a natural appearance that is undetectable.

Once your smile makeover is completed, you can proudly show off your new look knowing your new appearance is safe, long lasting, and as natural looking as possible. To schedule a consultation for porcelain veneers, call ORA Dental Studio at any of our four Chicago locations.

Detect Cavities early with DIAGNOdent Laser

Monday, April 16th, 2012

There are many types of lasers used in conjunction with dentistry in modern dental offices today. There are light lasers used to help whiten teeth and harden dental finishes. There are lasers used to offer the most precise surgical procedures available. And now there is another use for a laser at your next visit to the dentist that promises to be a time and money saver.

Generally when you go to see your dental provider for a professional cleaning and exam, a small probe has been used to pick along your teeth trying to detect dental caries or decay. But with progress there is another tool available to make this old method obsolete … it is the DIAGNOdent Laser.

Using the DIAGNOdent Laser during your dental exam, your dentist can detect even the smallest spot of dental decay before it develops into a cavity causing discomfort and the potential for more damage.

Using the DIAGNOdent Laser during your dental exam, your dentist can detect even the smallest spot of dental decay before it develops into a cavity causing discomfort and the potential for more damage. Since the success rate of early diagnosis of a cavity with the traditional method of using the manual probe is 50% to 75%, the chances of a small cavity becoming much more serious before it is detected is very likely.

The DIAGNOdent Laser allows the dentist to employ a laser diode to inspect your teeth. How does the laser work? First the dentist will take a reading with the laser of your healthy dental tissue. Then the laser is swept over your teeth particularly in all the areas known to be most susceptible to decay.  Using wavelengths and receptors, the laser is able to register if an area of a tooth is different from the reading obtained against your healthy tooth.

When the laser senses a difference in a tooth, it will register the severity of the difference. Some smaller readings will be noted as “watch areas”, while other early caries might dictate treatment is needed right away.

The beauty of early detection will allow many patients to avoid problems associated with severe dental decay including dental crowns and tooth loss. Also, repairing those small caries before they become large cavities saves time, money, and the discomfort that accompanies more extensive treatment.

At your next dental appointment ask our dentists about the availability of the DIAGNOdent Laser and how you can benefit from early decay detection.  Call Ora Dental Studio, serving River North and the surrounding areas, to schedule your appointment.

How Can I Benefit from Porcelain Crowns?

Friday, April 6th, 2012

dentist Bucktown ILThere are many circumstances that would call for treatment with a dental crown. The location in the mouth might dictate the type of crown best suited, but certainly one of the most functional and popular choices is a porcelain crown. Our dentist will be able to give you the proper advice for the selection that will work best for you.

What are some of the circumstances that might require treatment with a crown?

  • A broken tooth that is no longer viable on its own needs a crown to preserve the base of the tooth and protect the root.
  • A tooth that has been treated for decay multiple times might cause the tooth to break if further treatment is attempted.
  • Following a root canal, quite often a tooth will benefit from a crown to protect it from further damage.
  • Teeth that are worn down can be restored to their former beauty with crowns.

A porcelain crown has many attributes, but the aesthetic value is probably the most popular aspect of a porcelain crown. The ability of your dentist to match the shade and shape of your surrounding teeth make the crown virtually undetectable.

There are two types of porcelain crowns. The first is a porcelain fused to metal crown. Used primarily on back teeth, while the appearance of this type of crown is still attractive, the porcelain must be opaque in order to successfully hide the metal base of the crown. This type of crown offers a little more strength and stability for teeth that must sustain the majority of pressure from chewing.

The all porcelain crown is usually reserved for use on the front teeth. With less strength needed, the all porcelain crowns are beautiful in appearance. They do require considerable expertise to successfully place, but when completed, the finished result is the most natural look available in dental crowns.

Whatever type of crown is selected, two visits to your dental provider will be needed to prepare the tooth, take impressions, and send them to the dental lab for the crown to be fabricated. On your second visit, once you and your dentist are satisfied with the fit and appearance of your crown, it will be permanently cemented into place. Function and beauty are restored thanks to your new porcelain crown.
